The world’s tallest mountain- Mount Everest, soars so high that journeying through the mountainous terrain of the Khumbu region of Nepal to its base camp is an adventure of the most thrilling and challenging kind. Filled with some of the most spectacular mountain sceneries, the Everest Base Camp Trek is a journey that offers a mesmerizing experience unlike anything else on the planet. Usually lasting about 16 days, the Everest Base Camp Trek commences with a day spent in Kathmandu city exploring and observing its cultural and historical heritages. The trekking journey then starts off with a beautiful mountain flight to Lukla and continues on through many settlements and villages until its final destination of the base camp of Mount Everest. Mani Stone Walls carved with prayers, many chortens and stupas along with colorful prayer flags scripted with Tibetan and Buddhist prayers and mantras decorate the trail. The Everest Base Camp Trek includes many Sherpa monasteries and is filled with spiritual ambiances and new perspectives on the Himals the people call home.
We are arranging this special Everest Base Camp Trek on 15th October 2016 to 30th October 2017 as it is the best time of the year to go for Everest Base Camp trek. During this season, you can enjoy excellent weather and tempting mountain views. Plus, temperature is moderate.
DAY BY DAY ITINERARY
DAY 01 ARRIVE AT TRIBHUWAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT KATHMANDU
You may arrive at Kathmandu at any time. Our Airport representative will be there waiting for you at the airport to welcome you and will provide you with further details of the program. Since you have no plans on the first day of your arrival, check into your hotel, get your bearings and enjoy the time.
DAY 02 KATHMANDU VALLEY SIGHTSEEING TOUR AND PREPARATION FOR THE TREK
You will be given all the necessary guidance and time for the preparation of the trek. A copy of your travel document, like your insurance copy will be collected by us. At around 10am, the sightseeing tour will start of Kathmandu valley, and the tour will mainly maunder around the cultural heritage sites Kathmandu valley has to offer, all listed under the World Heritage List by UNESCO. The highlight of the tour includes the Kathmandu Durbar Square, the Swayambhunath Temple, the Boudhanath Stupa and the Pashupatinath Temple. The Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most religiously reverent temples dedicated to Lord Shiva; and we can sometimes observe the cremation ritual of the Hindu people by the bank of the holy river Bagmati at the temple as well. The Boudhanath is one of the largest Buddhist mandala in the country. The Swayambhunath is a beautiful stupa situated atop a hill and is also known as “the Monkey Temple”. The Kathmandu Durbar Square holds old monarchial palaces of the Malla kings who ruled over the city in ancient times, along with many architecturally intricate buildings and temples. Many of the buildings in the Kathmandu Durbar Square were heavily damaged during the 2015 earthquake. Reconstruction work is underway. After the tour, we will be heading back to the hotel. DAY 03 FLY TO LUKLA AND TREK TO PHAKDING (2652M/8699FT (WALKING DISTANCE: 8 KM) DURATION: 3 HOURS
A scenic flight to Lukla from Kathmandu will be taken today. The flight is filled with views of the changing terrain and emerald hills. Walking on a track that slowly moves to Cheplung village, we can see the lovely glimpse of Mount Khumbila in the distance. It is a sacred peak which has not been climbed yet. We will then gradually walk down to Phakding, passing across lush landscapes as the striking view of Kusum Kangraru in the distance greets you. DAY 04 PHAKDING TO NAMCHE BAZAAR (3440M/11283FT) (WALKING DISTANCE: 10-12 KM) DURATION: 6 HOURS
After breakfast at Phakding, we will pass through several villages before reaching the village of Jorsale and going through the Sagarmatha National Park. Established in 1976, the Sagarmatha National Park became the country’s first national park that was inscribed into the Natural World Heritage Site List. The entry point of the national park lies at Monjo and the woodlands of the park are a habitat to a wide variance of flora and fauna of the Everest region. During the journey, we can view a stunning backdrop of natural beauty along with old Mani stone walls carved with prayers. Passing the flexuous trail through the national park, we will cross several suspension bridges and pass through solemn alpine forests of pine and cedar. After the strenuous climb up the elevation, we will reach the capitol of the Everest region mostly inhabited by Sherpa people and which was once a trading rendezvous point for Nepali and Tibetan traders and merchants- Namche Bazaar. Immediately west of Namche lies the Kongde RI Himal at 6,187 meters and to the east is the Thamserku Peak at 6,623 meters. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
DAY 05 ACCLIMATIZATION DAY - HIKE TO EVEREST VIEW HOTEL (WALKING DISTANCE: 3-4 KM) DURATION: 3-4 HOURS
We have an acclimatization day today. We will spend the day enjoying the sights around Namche Bazaar. After the breakfast, we will take a trip to the Syangboche Airport, the airstrip located at the highest altitude in the world at 3700m. We shall then continue on to Everest View Hotel where the spectacular view of Mount Everest and Mount Lhotse among others, will be waiting for our eyes to feast upon their radiance. The Everest View Hotel is a hotel located at the highest altitude on Earth and boasts of views of Mount Everest from all of its windows. With the memories of stunning views engraved into our minds, we will then walk back to Namche Bazaar after visiting the Everest Photo Gallery and the Sherpa Culture Museum along our excursion. We shall then bring an end to our day by returning to our accommodation at Namche. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
DAY 06 NAMCHE TO TENGBOCHE (3860M/12660FT) (WALKING DISTANCE: 10-11 KM) DURATION: 5 HOURS
We will take an easy trail leading us to the Dudh Koshi Valley at Pungki Thanka, the jaunt hailing with a simply resplendent view of Mount Everest. We will then proceed to make our way to the right coast of the Dudh Koshi Valley to get to the Tengboche Monastery located at the stature of 3860m. The monastery is a hamlet from where the sight of Mount Ama Dablam, Mount Everest and numerous other peaks are beautiful to look at. The Tengboche Monastery is also regarded as the spiritual hub of the Khumbu region and is the largest monastery in the area. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
DAY 07 TENGBOCHE TO DINGBOCHE (4410M/14464FT) (WALKING DISTANCE: 11-12 KM) DURATION: 5 HOURS
Wayfaring across the suspension bridge over the Imja Khola, we shall move further to Dingboche from Tengboche, ascending to Pangboche while on the journey. Then, we will finally climb up to the heavenly little Sherpa settlement of Dingboche. It is a popular “Summer Valley” encompassing graceful views of the Lhotse, the Ama Dablam and the Island Peak. At the end of the day, we shall check into our guest house. Lunch, dinner and breakfast included.
DAY 08 ACCLIMATIZATION DAY - HIKE TO NAGERJUN AND RETURN (WALKING DISTANCE: 5-6 KM) DURATION: 4-5 HOURS
At Dingboche, we will have another acclimatization day. Rather than exploring lazily around Dingboche, we can hike to Nagerjun located at the height of 5100m. Nagerjun lying just above Dingboche is set on a hill on the edges of the Chhukung valley. While hiking, we will notice the trail turning steeper making the walk quite strenuous. Walking for approximately 3-4 hours, we will reach Nagerjun which bestows good panorama of Lobuche East (6119m), Lobuche West (6145m), Kangtega (6685m), Taboche Peak (6367m), Thamserku (6608m), and Ama Dablam (6856m). If you are lucky, you can also observe stunning sights of Makalu, the world’s fifth tallest peak on a clear day. The views of Pheriche Valley from here is also splendid. Capturing unforgettable sights, we will walk back to Dingboche. After finishing our lunch, we can just take a rejuvenating sunbath and relax. DAY 09 DINGBOCHE TO LOBUCHE (4910M/16105FT) (WALKING DISTANCE. 11-12 KM) DURATION: 5 HOURS
We will make our way to Dhungla from Dingboche, where we shall come across the Trekkers Aid Post situated at Pheriche (4210m), run by the Western Volunteer Doctors and assisted by The Himalayan Rescue Association. The aid post helps in the treatment of trekkers. Coming across to Chupki Lhara after passing the rock-strewn oblique with the sight of magisterial mountains, we shall walk down to the Khumbu Glacier moraine. The views of the mountain peaks like Khumbutse, Mahalangur Himal, Lingtren and the Pumori from here are beautiful. Mount Nuptse also looms up ahead once we cross the glacier pass. We shall then check into our guesthouse at Lobuche for the night. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
DAY 10 LOBUCHE - EVEREST BASE CAMP (5364M/17594FT) - GOREKSHEP (DISTANCE: 14-15 KM) DURATION: 8 HOURS
This is an anticipated day of the trekking trip and we will begin by starting the walk slow to avoid altitude sickness, the sight of the world’s highest glacier, The Khumbu Glacier accompanying us to our right. Walking for about 2-3 hours from Lobuche, we will get to Gorekshep 5181m/16994ft a tranquil location dotted with some lodges and proceed to make our hike all the way to the top of the edge, finally arriving at the Everest Base Camp. Here, the sight of the Khumbu Icefall and the view of the Khumbutse and Lingtren mountains are quite heavenly. After spending some time at the base camp enjoying the sights and the environment, we shall return to Gorakshep. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
DAY 11 GORAKSHEP - KALA PATHAR (5545M/18188FT) - PHERICHE (4210M/13809FT) (DISTANCE: 13-14 KM) 7 HOURS
Today, early in the morning we will hike up to Kalapatthar, located at the elevation of 5545m. Kalapatthar is a famous vantage point for the Panoramic views of Mount Everest, Nuptse, Chagatse, Lhotse and the Pumori can be seen from Kalapatthar quite beautifully. We will then proceed to return to Gorakshep and walk down to Pheriche. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
DAY 12 PHERICHE TO NAMCHE (3440M/11283FT) (WALKING DISTANCE: 14-15 KM) DURATION: 7 HOURS
With an easy trekking along the Imja River, we will make our way to Tengboche from where we will move down to Phungki Thanka. We shall also pass the Kyangjuma on our hike back to Namche. Overnight at Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
DAY 13: NAMCHE TO LUKLA (2800M/9184FT) (WALKING DISTANCE: 18-19 KM) DURATION: 7 HOURS
We will, on this day, walk on a trail moving steeply downward. On the way, we will walk across suspension bridges decorated with the prayer flags above the gushing Dudh Koshi River. The views of the open plains, pine and rhododendron forests as well as snow covered peaks will enchant you. As we reach Lukla, we can just relax. In the evening, we may celebrate the victory of accomplishing the trek. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
DAY 14: LUKLA TO KATHMANDU
The mountains will bid you adieu for the last time as you fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla, which will take about 30 minutes. After landing in the Kathmandu airport, you will be transferred to the Hotel where you shall stay overnight. Breakfast included.
DAY 15 RESERVE DAY IN KATHMANDU
On this day, you can proceed to relax and can have another tour of the city or go shopping at the hub of “all things-tourist” at Thamel. Overnight at hotel, breakfast included.
DAY 16 FAREWELL
The airport representative from Nepal Hiking Team will transport you to Kathmandu International Airport around 3 hours before your scheduled flight from where you will depart.
