Description

The River City (TN) and Tulsa (OK) Chapters of the Links, Incorporated are excited to continue their global presence as we Journey to Jamaica in April 2017! As we look to broaden our International Trends and Services platform for programs designed to service the educational, health and cultural needs of people of African descent throughout the African Diaspora, our Caribbean excursion will be both inspirational and rewarding.
Please join us for our visit to Jamaica, where we will demonstrate our commitment to enriching and sustaining the cultural and economic survival of people of African ancestry, through friendship and service.
While spending five exciting days in Jamaica, members will have the opportunity to visit and spend a day of service at the Carey Basic Baptist School –located in the St. James Parish of Montego Bay, where we will assist with repairs and improvements needed at the school, provide books, school supplies, and other needed educational resources, and conduct two health and wellness workshops.  In addition, we will conduct outreach activities and provide supportive services to homeless youth at the Irwin Girls Home.   Lastly, we will assemble and much needed staple food items to at-risk families with the support of the Mt. Carey AME Zion Church.  Our Journey to Jamaica III will impact the lives of underserved families throughout Montego Bay, and allow each traveler to explore and experience the cultural jewels of the local region.
A few of the goals established include 1) to impact the school by performing and/or facilitating repairs and improvements, 2) to impact underserved children, women and families that live in poverty and lack access to food by providing nonperishable goods and personal care products and 3) to directly impact the lives of service workers at our partner hotel by being gratuitous and providing care packages for them, and 5) to provide a boost to black owned businesses in the local area

Broader Community Outreach
Impact for the broader community will include distributing personal care and staple nonperishable food items to a shelter for homeless teen girls, and other at-risk women and families.  Further we will facilitate group outings that patronize local black owned establishments to create a substantial economic impact on those businesses.
